One of the JAMA 101's best qualities is that it doesn't feel like a cheap device. We actually prefer its construction to some of i-mate's Ultimate smartphones as it's a lot more compact and feels great in the hand due to its soft rubberised finish. It's a design that errs more on the side of durability rather than fashion - although it's not an unattractive phone - with all of the ports protected by rubber stoppers that (thankfully) are attached to the device so you don't lose them.

Other quality fittings include the bright 2.4-inch touchscreen display (smaller than average, but with the same 320x240 QVGA resolution and 64k colour depth as most other Windows Mobile phones), excellent tactile feedback on the buttons and navigation pad, and a solid retractable stylus.

That said, it is an entry-level phone, and for most features it sticks to the bare minimum. There's no Wi-Fi, 3G, HSDPA or GPS to speak of, nor does it offer quad-band GSM for world-wide network coverage. Instead, you get tri-band GSM, Bluetooth 1.2 (an older spec that doesn't support A2DP or file transfers), a no-frills two-megapixel camera, a scant 36MB of free storage memory, and a microSD card slot that supports a maximum of 2GB. Network reception on the JAMA 101 is good, however call quality - using both the earpiece and speakerphone - is average at best. If you're a heavy text messager or emailer, the lack of dedicated thumbboard or keypad is a hassle as you have to use the stylus and a tiny on-screen keyboard to enter text.
