Motorola MOTORAZR2 V9 Ferrari Special Edition
By Jenneth Orantia, 5/8/2008 5:43:13

The original RAZR was launched to an admiring public in 2004, and over the years Motorola has continued to milk the phone’s success with colour changes, version updates, and spin-offs like the KRZR, ROKR and RIZR.

The MOTORAZR2 V9 Ferrari Special Edition is the newest member of the family, and while its design stays true to the classic RAZR form factor (clamshell opening, laser-etched keypad, slim profile), there are lots of modern touches that keep it competitive with other fashion phones on the market.

The MOTORAZR2 isn’t a new phone per se, but since its release in May last year, there have been two different versions – the V8 and the V9 – as well as two special ‘flavours’: the MOTORAZR2 V8 Luxury edition and the MOTORAZR2 V9 Ferrari Special Edition. Separating the two versions is wireless data speed: the V8 chugs along at GPRS/EDGE, while the V9 has full 3.6Mbps HSDPA connectivity.

The parallel between a fast sportscar and fast data speeds on the V9 Ferrari Special Edition is obvious, but there are other tie-ins that demonstrate the phone’s unique branding. The distinctive Ferrari logo is stamped on the back and displayed on the external LCD when the phone’s open, the front and back have a checkered flag pattern, and the phone is replete with Ferrari wallpapers, ringtones and startup sounds. The box also comes with a leather case with the Motorola and Ferrari logos on either side.
