Dell Studio 15 notebook

By Damien Virulhapan, 12/8/2008 5:37:13

Dell has added its Studio range of notebooks to its lineup which are designed to sit between their low end Inspiron offerings and their high end XPS gaming notebook range. The Studio range takes design cues and some of the more powerful components found in the XPS lineup and packages it into a more value-oriented notebook.

The Studio 15 takes the current trend of glossy notebook designs and adds its own twists. Like many other notebooks in Dell's lineup, the matte cover is available in a myriad of colours (11 in total) to suit your personal taste. The internal design of the Studio 15 is glossy, but because of the light grey colour, fingerprints aren’t as obvious as they would be on a piano black finish. A strange oil slick pattern also graces the bottom right hand corner of the Studio 15’s palm rest area and extends to the trackpad.

In a smart design touch the power button is located on the right hand side on the hinge and is illuminated with a white ring. On the opposite side of the hinge there's a similar styled button that acts as a shortcut to the Wi-Fi Catcher utility which automatically detects any available 802.11b/g wireless networks. Once powered up, the all too common touch sensitive media keys located above the keyboard flash from left to right then back again just to let you know that its powered up and read to go. In the top right corner above the keyboard there's Wi-Fi and Bluetooth status.

The glossy 15.4-inch LED widescreen LCD supports a maximum resolution of 1440x900 and displays viewing text and graphics with clarity. The hinge supporting the LCD is also strong and sturdy. Screens that support a lower resolution of 1280x800 and a higher resolution of 1600x1200 are also available but lack the LED support found on our configuration which won't provide the same colour reproduction.
