ASUS Eee PC 1000H netbook
By Damien Virulhapan, 18/8/2008 5:12:03

After the release of its Eee PC 900 a few months ago, ASUS have wasted no time in pumping out refreshed models based on Intel’s 1.6GHz Atom processor. First we had the Eee PC 901 and now the Eee PC1000H has arrived on the netbook scene.

The glossy finish of the lid and the palm rest area of the Eee PC 1000H are bound to attract fingerprints, but luckily ASUS were kind enough to supply a cloth if you happen to be pedantic about this kind of thing. There's also a neoprene carry pouch for the Eee PC 1000H, which can comfortably accommodate the AC adapter and power cord without any trouble. But if you're the type that hates getting one little scratch on your hardware then it's probably better if you keep them separate.

The hinge of the Eee PC 1000H is solidly built and allows the screen to be tilted to roughly 135 degrees if you feel the need to use the screen that far back. An interesting observation is that when the screen is tilted to its furthest point, the Eee PC 1000H has been designed so it doesn’t tilt backwards like we’ve seen on the MSI Wind.

Thanks to the larger 10-inch screen, the Eee PC 1000H now has a larger keyboard which means that you are now able to type faster. The larger keyboard also means that the Enter and Backspace keys have grown which makes the Eee PC 1000H’s keyboard feels closer to a full-size keyboard rather than the small keyboards we've seen in past Eee PC models.

Four shortcut keys are located above the keyboard, two of which are user-customisable by using the Eee InstantKey application. These shortcut buttons allow you to turn off the screen to save battery and to change screen resolution, while the two user-customisable buttons are set to change power saving mode and also to open Skype.

"Im pretty sure you only get the 20GB storage on the 1000 model with the 40GB SSD not the 1000h with the 80 GB hdd" What would be the difference? Except the noise, the weight and the battery life which is shorter (mine lives about 7 hours running with minimum light, Wifi Off, Bluetooth off) I personnally own a eeepc 1000H and have had a Wind during one week. I definitely prefer the eeepc 1000.
