iPhone watch: iPhone tablet?

By Damian Francis, 5/16/2008 8:18:13 AM

More a mini-tablet device than a smartphone, it seems likely that Apple will launch a larger version of the iPhone that sports an Intel Atom processor as well.

If news coming out of Germany (from ZDNet) is to be believed, this will be Apple’s next iPhone conquest after they release the 3G iPhone in the very near future. It’s reported that Hannes Schwaderer, CEO of Intel in Germany, has confirmed there is an Intel Atom based iPhone in the works and that it will be of a slightly larger size than the current model. A 720x480 resolution screen is the favourite rumoured size at the moment.

Rumours of an Apple tablet are not new. They've been circulating for years now, but it was largely thought it would be based on the MacBook or MacBook pro design and be a fully fledged tablet rather than a smaller version based on the iPhone. Website Crave went so far as to confirm from their sources last November that Apple would create a tablet based on a patent filed back in May of 2005. These rumours have all but died, as have most of the Apple tablet rumours, until today’s iPhone news.
