Set to hit American shelves in June, PC Microworks is about to release the Edge, the world’s fastest 15.4-inch laptop based on the brand new Intel Montevina Dual and Quad Core CPUs.
It doesn’t stop with the smoking processor options either. The Edge features a brilliant 15.4-inch HD (1920x1200) Wide Cinema display with Ultra Bright technology that will display your content in full 1080p resolution. It won’t have a problem doing it either with the other specs packed into the small package.
The aforementioned Core 2 Extreme QX9300 Quad Core CPU Intel Montevina processor @ 2.8GHz will have Ferrari F1 cars struggling to keep up with it. You can also stick an NVIDIA 1GB 9800 GTX graphics card into the Edge if the standard 512MB 8800GTX isn’t up to your standards. It doesn’t stop there though, your RAM can reach the lofty heights of 8GBs worth of 1333MHz DDR3 if you so wish. With 1024MB of GPU memory, that’s a massive 9216MB in total. Oh, and in case you want to store stuff on your laptop, you get a 320GB, 7,200 RPM, hard drive.
Other options you have when you purchase a PC Microworks Edge laptop are Blu-ray and HD DVD optical drives, finger print scanning technology, HSDPA, integrated wireless N, integrated media card readers, and a hell of a lot of ports including four USBs, HDMI and Firewire. Not surprisingly, the battery life is rather short, expected to reach two hours tops.
The Edge will come with your choice of Windows Vista or Windows XP pre-installed and prices start at US$1,899 for the basic Edge SS. They will be available from June 3 in the US. No Australian release date has been announced yet.
