Audio Technica release new cans

By Damian Francis, 5/9/2008 10:53:58 AM

Headphone specialists Audio Technica have just released a range of new headphones that include standard in-ears, noise-cancelling, and over ear models.

Four new models have joined the Audio Technica range aimed at appealing to different users. The baby of the new line up is the CK1, aimed at attracting the female market. It comes in six pastel colours (plumeria, sunflower, orchid, hibiscus, pansy and clover… editor-at-large Stuart Whitmore has expressed his desire to own the pansy shade) and includes a storage tin that will easily fit in the handbag. They come with three ear bud sizes as well and retail for $44.95.

The ATH-CKM50 is the next step up. Featuring an in-ear design with 12.5mm neodymium magnet driver, they deliver a frequency range of 5-24,000Hz. They are available in three colours (red, black and white) and come with a two-part cord. You can pick up a pair for $89.

For those that want noise-cancelling technology in an in-ear design, there’s the ATH-ANC3s. These boast 85% noise cancellation and require a single AAA battery. They come with three sizes of ear tips and are available in black or white. You get a carry case and additional extension cable as well as an in-flight adaptor. While some noise cancellers will stop when the battery runs dead, the music will go on if that happens with the ATH-ANC3s. You can also use the noise cancelling technology without music. Save up for a bit though because the RRP is $249.

Finally, you can get the street beat back with the SQ5 over-ear headphones. The love it or hate it design certainly stands out, especially in red. You just have to be confident with your look! They sport a 10Hz-25KHz dynamic range and the cups turn 180 degrees for easier storage. We tested a pair in the office and were very impressed by the sound quality, especially at the $149 asking price (less if you look around). Whether we’re game enough to wear them outside is another question. They’re available in red, black, and white.
