Eee PC now a Window(s) to the world (Updated)

By Damien Virulhapan, 3/5/2008 11:30:55 AM

Ever since the Eee PC landed in Australia in December 2007, Eee enthusiasts have been trying to install Windows XP on their Eee PCs using external drives. Asus have now made things easier for everyone and will released a new Eee PC with Windows XP pre-installed.

Update: Today Asus announced pricing for the Windows XP Eee PC. At a very respectable $579 it's sure to be a an impressive seller.

Primarily aimed at the education sector, the popularity of the Eee PC has also spread to those looking for a cheap, mobile laptop. But now new users can be spared the pain of trying to install Windows XP on their Eee PCs.

Coinciding with the Eee PC with XP launch, Asus is also taking the opportunity to develop a new program to help spread the word of the Eee PC around schools, with roadshow tours being held in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra and Hobart from March 2008. If you happen to be an educational institution in Darwin and want to get caught up in the hysteria, good luck and god speed with your travels.

The Eee PC with Windows XP will be available via special tender for educational institutions and through computer resellers from March 2008 with the price and release date yet to be confirmed. With the original Eee PC costing $499, it will be interesting to see just how much the Windows XP version will cost. Dell is currently selling their cheapest laptop for $749 so the Eee PC can’t afford to be a lot more expensive than the original. Stay tuned, gadget zone will publish the RRP as soon as it is confirmed.

Brilliant!!! I'm definitely interested in getting one now. I wonder what the storage will be - fingers crossed it will be at least 8 GBs. Stu :-) www.myspace.com/stuartguthriemusic
