Sony’s PSP phone back on track?
By Damian Francis, 26/6/2008 10:52:07

Just a couple of weeks ago the Sony Ericsson F305 surfaced on the internet. The basic gaming phone with Playstation style buttons relit rumours of the PSP phone.

Marketing Week is reporting that talks within Sony to release the PSP phone are back on track with a late 2009 release looking like a possibility. The sources, mainly from Korea and Japan, say that the phone would be a simple product to produce because Sony are already producing phones in partnership with Ericsson and the technology is already there. All that would have to be added are the Playstation hardware and software to produce a gaming phone. Games would not be on physical UMDs like the current PSP.

What’s more important though is that the sources seem to indicate that Sony will be going it alone without the help of Ericsson. Relationships between the two companies is allegedly frosty already and it could be that Sony don’t wish to share their Playstation branding with Ericsson being that they already lend the Walkman branding to mobile phones produced by the partnership.

How much of all this is fact is hard to say though. Take it with a grain of salt until more solid reports are released.
