Acer Aspire One hits AUS July
By Damian Francis, 3/7/2008 11:46:13

Yet more netbook news, this time from the sunny shores of Acer island. The Acer Aspire One, as reported on previously by gadget zone, has now got an Australian release date and price as well as more information on the specs.

If you’re desperate to get yourself one of these rather suave looking devices, you won’t have to wait too long. Acer has revealed they will release the Aspire One sometime late this month. Unfortunately no firm date was given. However, they were so kind as to reveal the specs (even if they didn’t invite gadget zone to come and have a look at the device).

Powered by an Intel Atom processor, the Aspire one will also include a rather substantial (for a netbook) 1.5GB of memory. That’s only for the Windows XP model though. You’re lumped with 512MB if you go down the Linux path. In terms of storage, Windows XP users will get 120GB while the Linux people will be stuck with just 8GB. At least it’s different to the ASUS model that rather confusingly gives the Linux users more storage than its XP counterpart.

The Aspire One will ship with a 3-cell battery that is likely to be changed to a 6-cell battery as standard down the track. The Linux model will set you back $599 while a Windows XP version will cost $699.
