Lenovo creates PSP look-a-like
By Damian Francis, 19/8/2008 2:05:37

In the middle of the Olympic games, of which it’s a major sponsor, Lenovo has revealed its next computing device, the IdeaPad U8 ultra mobile PC. With the looks of a PSP it’s certainly got top marks for style.

Whether the U8 actually notches up some decent sales figure will really be the question. Ultra portable PCs have largely been swallowed up by the now infamous netbook movement. Sales of other ultra portables have been rather poor to say the least. But Lenovo are at least offering a device that is somewhat desirable.

The U8 gets its grunt from an 800MHz Atom Z500 processor, has a 6GB solid state hard drive and can be equipped with up to 2GB of memory. It’s not going to break any Olympic records but for an ultra portable, it will be enough to get it going at a fair rate.

Entertainment is one of the U8’s mainstays, offering TV if a tuner is attached to the USB port as well as twin cameras if you just can't get enough of yourself. It comes with a stylus operated touch-screen and offers wireless support as well so you can use GPS in case you get lost while watching TV.
