Aus reseller says iPhone due June

By Damian Francis, 4/29/2008 3:50:56 PM

It’s not the official word, far from it in fact, but gadget zone staff couldn’t help but overhear when a store rep at an Apple reseller happened to mention to a middle aged customer today that the iPhone was due in Australia in June.

At times Apple resellers get a small head start on the rest of us regarding product launches. We’re hoping that this is one of those times. If it is it could signal the long awaited release of the world’s most talked about mobile phone in Australia, more than a year after its US launch.

Yesterday gadget zone reported that June 9 is looking like the date Steve Jobs will unveil the 3G iPhone, which we’d expect would herald the Australian launch.

On top of our eavesdropping, the Commercial Times of China is further backing up the rumour, reporting that Foxconn Electronics, the Chinese company that manufactures the current iPhone, has been ordered to begin assembly of the second generation 3G iPhone in May so it can ship in June.
